McNeil Point, Mt. Hood Wilderness

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Welcome! We are thrilled to share our hiking and camping explorations from around the Pacific Northwest. Mike & I both share an unbridled love for the outdoors and hope to share our experiences with others curious to venture into the wild.

In late August, we hit the trail around 10:00 AM towards McNeil Point.  A little background on this trail, it was roughly 10 miles roundtrip and took 4.5 hours. Not for the faint of heart, this hike requires stamina to reach the stone shelter atop McNeil Point. We departed from the Top Spur Trailhead, following the Timberline Trail most of the way. It's a popular hike so expect to see others meandering throughout the trails.

Feel free to post comments or questions below, I rate this hike a 9, definitely one we would do again. For rating the hike we consider viewpoints, length, crowdedness, and diversity of scenery. McNeil Point has everything, views, a manageable length, not terribly crowded due to the length and elevation incline and a variety of scenes from wooded forests, mountains, streams, meadows and lakes.
